Gojira (Godzilla) (1954) - Movie Review

Before watching this movie, I honestly never watched the Japanese version of Godzilla (shameful, I know). I grew up with the crappy Hollywood interpretation of Godzilla back then in 1998 starring Matthew Broderick. The movie sucked so hard and so cheesy. And they were teasing at the end of the movie that they'd make a sequel out of this. Thankfully that didn't happen haha.

Moving forward to 2014, yet again another Hollywood attempt on making the "King of the Monsters" movie. I had high hopes on that movie since it has interesting casts like Bryan Cranston (famously known as Walter White from Breaking Bad, which is an awesome series! You should watch it!), Ken Watanabe, etc. And again, was let down by that movie since it focused a lot on human drama rather than Godzilla itself. Seriously tho! Godzilla barely have screen time on this movie! Even the Mutos have more screen time than Godzilla!

And the fight scene! Oh my god! Don't get me started on that! It's filled with a cock tease! We thought that we are going to see Godzilla and Muto duking it out! But NOPE! You won't see them fight! Even the movie is making fun of itself. "Let them fight!" says Ken Watanabe on that movie. But on a serious note, 2014 Godzilla movie is a far better movie rather than the 1998 one. And that final battle between Godzilla and Muto actually have a satisfying pay off!

So I was thinking to myself, where can I have the most authentic Godzilla experience? Of course the first movie! And then I watched it. Today, I'm going to talk the first Godzilla movie that was ever made in 1954. How was it? Let's just jump into the review! XD

Story
There's a ship get wrecked near the Odo Island. Japanese government sent a rescue team on a boat as well to save the remaining survivor. However, the rescue ship met the same fate as the first ship. It is believed that the ship is destroyed by ancient sea creature that is known as "Godzilla". The fishermen has learned about this legend and was told to be aware of that creature when sailing to sea. Reporters came down to the island to found that many things on the village is destroyed by something enormous. Hearing that information, the Japanese Government decides to send a paleontologist, Kyohei Yamane, to investigate the island. Later on, he found a giant radioactive footprint and a trilobite. Suddenly, the Godzilla appears on that island. Yamane saw the Godzilla. Fortunately, the Godzilla just showed up and returns to the sea.
Yamane came back to Tokyo to report his findings in the Odo Island. He told the government that Godzilla is evolved from ancient sea creature into terrestrial animal being. He also concludes that Godzilla showed up because he feels disturbed on his underwater habitat because of the hydrogen bomb testing. And later on, the government figure have some debate on the matter whether they should kill the monster or let him be alive.
What will happen to Japan? What will they do to Godzilla?

My thoughts on the movie

  1. When you watch this movie in particular, you will see that Godzilla is actually an allegory of the atomic bomb that happened during the World War II. And this movie really nailed it on portraying the metaphor on the situation back then. When you watch this movie, you will feel the fear, depressed, the sorrow, and also how horrifying it is to live on that era.
  2. The special effects on this movie seems dated if we look from today's perspective. (well, it's a 60 years+ movie, duh). But it's still pretty convincing and horrifying to see. I think people back then when watching this on a theater will feel scared back then (since it's just almost a decade after WWII). If we look at Godzilla, we know for sure that Godzilla is a person on a rubber suit. But still, this effects was a breakthrough back then. I read on the trivia (or you can watch it here) that the suit is too heavy for the suit actor that he can even barely move. What I love when I watch a very old movies is that the limitation is a big constraint back then. And how they overcome it with anything that they got to make a great scene is really admirable. And the result is a well-known classic that will be watched by generations to come.
  3. When I watched the Hollywood Godzilla, I don't really care about the humans. But it's different on this movie. The characters actually matter to the plot. And most of the main character have some depth and development. Especially the scientist guy, Serizawa. We can see his dilemma on this movie. And it's not just a stupid moral dilemma. It's a high-stake dilemma that actually matters.
So here comes the final verdict. Should you watch Gojira (Godzilla) (1954)? Yes you should! This is a classic movie that everybody should watch (moreover if you claimed yourself a Godzilla fan). The movie might seem dated (which, I realize that is a huge turn off for some people) but this movie is genuinely great. Everything in this movie is serious and there's no silly jokes just like the Hollywood one. Heck, I think there's not even one joke on this movie. You will feel the terror and horror of Godzilla in this movie. Every time he showed up, You will say "damn this monster is terrifying" especially when Godzilla destroys everything on his sight. The metaphor that Godzilla carries throughout the movie still quite relevant to this day (the effect of nuclear bombs and wars to the people). Stop the war and make peace people! And now, I can't wait to watch Shin Gojira. I hope this movie will be released soon here in Indonesia! It's directed by Hideaki Anno, the guy who made Neon Genesis Evangelion. The anticipation is real guys! XD

And that's it! My review on Gojira (1954). I hope that you will find this review useful. This is Reikichi, signing out!

Kingsglaive : Final Fantasy XV - Movie Review

I'm a big Final Fantasy fan, I've finished almost every Final Fantasy series (I didn't have PS2 and PS3, so I haven't played X, XIII, but I finished XII on my friend's PS2 lol). Final Fantasy XV was initially called as "Final Fantasy versus XIII". But we almost never heard of its existence until a couple years ago. I thought Square Enix dropped the project and moved on to the new one. But they didn't. So this game has been in development for 10 years. And we almost had it next month (september) until SE decided to delay it until November 29th. And here we are now, on August 17th, SE released a "teaser" of the game in featured movie, "Kingsglaive : Final Fantasy XV"
So I've watched this movie, how was it? Let's dive into it!

The story revolves on war between two kingdoms, Lucis and Niflheim. Niflheim tried to conquer other kingdoms and rule the world with its advanced technology, while Lucis stands still from Niflheim. One day, Niflheim came to Lucis and asks for Truce. But they need to surrender Imsonia (Lucis' capital city) to Niflheim. King Regis (King of Lucis) of course refuses this offer, and he offers another territory which is a neighbor territory from Lucis. Hearing that condition, Niflheim offered another term, the Lucis' prince, Noctis must marry Lunafreya, the Princess from Tenebrae which is a kingdom under Niflheim empire. And finally they agree on that term. and they will held a truce treaty in couple of days. King Regis thought that Niflheim won't make a truce and a deal this easy. So he sent one of his troops called the "Kingsglaive" to met Lunafreya in person. What will happen to Lucis? Will everything be okay? Don't worry, I won't spoil it for you! XD

This movie is a prologue to the Final Fantasy XV, so I think it goes without saying that this movie has an incomplete/unresolved conflict and stories. There's no resolution or whatsoever in this movie. But this movie did a great job on establishing the main conflict of the story. And hopefully some plot holes will be explained later in the game.
The first half of the movie is plot heavy. It could turn off some people who didn't really like that kind of movie. But not for me, I really love this kind movie/series where they really nailed it on the "world building".
All I can say that this story telling is much much much more coherent than previous Final Fantasy movies (i.e Final Fantasy VII : Advent Children or a non-existent Final Fantasy movie : The Spirits Within). And I can tell you that this is the best Final Fantasy Movie that we have right now!

The last half of the movie is mostly action. And I think the action looks cool and all but it is the kind of animation that throws a lot of stuff in one frame so when you watch it you'll be like
"what is going on? where should I look?". But this movie succeed on telling me about the "game mechanic" of this game. And I can't wait to play it! XD

The details on this movie are stunningly beautiful! I really want to screencap everything on this movie and make wallpaper for my desktop PC. Great job SE! I think this is one of the most beautiful/realistic 3D movie I've ever seen.

The soundtrack is amazing! Yoko Shimomura really nailed the tone of Final Fantasy XV. Modern yet classic at the same time! XD

The voice acting are great, this movie has amazing voice actor casts. (Sean Bean, Aaron Paul, Lena Headey)
Aaron Paul really nailed his role as Nyx. And I kinda wished he swear "B*TCH!" on this movie. Because that's what Jesse do on Breaking Bad X'D
The voice acting are amazing and everything felt natural when you hear it.

You can enjoy this movie without having previous knowledge about "The world of Final Fantasy". But it is very entertaining for a Final Fantasy Fan like me. There are a lot of callbacks or references to the previous games. And I noticed it is mostly from Final Fantasy VI (one of the best classic FF RPG) and also VII. For example, from FF VI, there's Magitek Armor and Fighting Ultros on the airship (if you remember that, you are awesome!). As for FF VII, there's a monster resembling Emerald Weapon and Niflheim resembles Nibelheim in pronunciation. which Cloud and Tifa's hometown. And probably there's more to it that I didn't notice when I watch this movie

The problems that I I had in this movie:

  1. At the first and the last minutes of the movie, the movie uses a lot of "fade-to-black" screen transitions. It's kinda distracting and annoying at times. But I think it's just my personal nitpick lol.
  2. Even though the movie is titled Kingsglaive, we don't see a lot of them in this movie. They told us their background story a little bit. But I wished that I see more of them, since they are a group of badasses

So here comes the final verdict. Should you watch Kingsglaive FF XV? If you are planning to play the game, of course you should!
Some people say that this game is going to be the best Final Fantasy game ever made. But let's just manage our expectations right now and hopefully it won't make people left dissapointed like FF XIII.

So that's it from me guys, I hope that you find this review useful! This is Reikichi, signing out! XD

Captain America : Civil War - Movie Review

Civil War! One of the most anticipated movie of this year is finally out and thankfully I have the time to watch it and I decided to review it for you guys this week! Honestly, when this movie is announced, I thought that this movie is going to be a "fanservice galore" for superheroes fans out there. But boy, I was wrong!

First of all, this is a non-spoiler review, so don't worry if you haven't watched this movie yet. So let's dive into it!

Civil War is a direct sequel from the The Winter Soldier. This movie focuses on how the government and the whole world started to think that Superheroes' action must be under control/supervision. And that makes the Avengers split into two sides, the ones who support the act and the ones who denies the act. Tony Stark thought that "yes it's true, we should be under supervision and control." and Steve Rogers thought "If we are under control, how far they will control us?" and both sides made some good points from both perspectives as well which I won't spoil you what it is. It's a two clashing ideologies and the other Avengers crew must choose which sides are they on.

What I love from this movie is how they build up the conflict from the start to finish. This movie is divided into two parts, Captain America's sequel movie and Civil War. Cap's relationship with Bucky (The Winter Soldier) is carrying the main conflict on this movie. Bucky's inclusion doesn't feel forced at all. And for the Civil War part, it's not just bunch of superheroes suiting up for the fight fest (unlike Showa vs Heisei Rider lol). The Civil War dilemma carries on to the movie. And when they fight each other, you can feel the tension, the reason to fight, and of course the dilemma of (almost) each Avengers members. And in the climax, it feels emotional.

This movie successfully explaining to us how two sides of a problems works. It builds up tensions, characters, and depth perspectives of both sides. Honestly, when I read the comics, I was in Captain America's side (because I don't really like Iron Man in the comics and Spidey finally ends up with Cap, And me as a Spider-man fanboy ends up choose team Cap's side lol). But when I watched this movie, I can't really decide which side that I should root for since both sides has their points on their arguments. It feels like watching Gundam, Each sides has their black and white points. It feels like we are stuck in the grey area. And you will feel like "Oh yeah, I do see two sides of the conflict" and you will feel stuck in the dilemma just like the characters in the movie. Great job movie!

And when they fight it is really enjoyable and entertaining to watch! They know when they have to be funny and serious.

So let's talk about Black Panther, I'm not really familiar with his character, but I know that he is kinda like the Batman of Marvel universe (By Batman, I mean, he is a rich kid, who dresses black to fight crime when his parents are dead, yeap pretty much the same background) And this movie have strong and solid introduction of him and it makes me excited to watch his stand alone movie next year!

And Spider-man! Oh My God! We should talk about this guy! First of all, before I watched this movie, I think Andrew Garfield made a good portrayal of Spider-man before. But he didn't really nailed the Peter Parker side and the movie is not so good. And Tom Holland nailed both of Peter Parker and Spider-man character in this movie! I'm super-super-super excited to see his stand alone movie next year! XD

The villain in this movie.... welp, this is a strange one, I can't see the villain as a real villain here since the main conflict is the ideologies of both sides. All the villain is do is just giving them a gentle push to fight. But he didn't really add something new to the conflict. I think the hero of this movie is the villain of this movie too. The antagonist of this movie is the opposite sides and the protagonist of this movie is the side that you are on. Which depends on how you, the viewers, sees it.

In the end, it's not a perfect movie, but it's really entertaining to watch! And probably my favorite marvel movie of all time. Things that I found lacking in this movie is the score, it doesn't really stand out. At first, the  action scenes has too much shaky cam and it feels jarring. But fortunately it gets better throughout the movie.
So, should you watch this movie? Yes, definitely watch it!

That's all I have to say about this movie guys, I hope you find this review useful!

After Thoughts - Lost in Translation

So this is a new segment on my blog that I'd love to call as "After Thoughts",
It's basically my after thoughts after I watched something, be it movies, anime series, or anything.
Of course it contains spoilers (well, duh!). This is a review of the movie... welp, kinda! but more to my thoughts about it.

So I just watched this movie yesterday with my girlfriend, and I honestly loved this movie! I've heard a lot of good things about this movie but I didn't have a chance to watch it, but fortunately, I finally watched it.
The ending of the movie just hit me right in the feels, the story is focused on these 2 persons who stuck in Japan.
The first one is Bob Harris, a well known actor played by Bill Murray, who is going to Japan for shooting some advertising and doing a lot of, you know, actor stuff there. And since he is busy with work. he forgot his children's birthday and sometimes having trouble with his wife.
The second one is a housewife named Charlotte, played by Scarlett Johansson, whose husband is a photographer and rarely spend his time together with her. And she hardly enjoying her stay in Japan because she felt that she is marrying a different person right now.

The main dish of this movie is the relationship between these 2 characters.
This title is quite self-explanatory. Both of them are lost in translation since they can't really understand Japanese and both of them are lost in translation as in they are in a point where they don't know where to go in their life right now.
Normally, we would expect them to hook up or fall in love in the end of the movie, but this movie didn't go there. They are just two persons whose life are stuck in the rut and they share loneliness together in the foreign world and I loved this idea!

I loved the chemistry between Bob and Charlotte throughout the movie. But in the end, they have to say goodbye which hits me right in the feels. And the thing that he whispered to Charlotte, I think he is saying a proper goodbye to her since he didn't managed to do so before he leaves the hotel. and maybe he is thanking her for sharing his loneliness together with him when he is in Japan.

Bill Murray's acting is superb here, I'm not really sure who is he playing here, is he playing himself here? Hahaha

Scarlett Johansson's acting here is good as well.

The cinematography is really good and beautiful. and honestly this is the first Sophia Coppola movie I've ever watched and I'm excited to see more of her movie.

So that's my after thoughts on Lost in Translation, have you watched it? Did you like it? Share your thoughts on the comments below!

if you liked this new segment, please let me know :)

Batman v Superman - Spoiler talk

Before we started, I'm more a Batman person than Superman person. So you know which team I am in right now. hahaha
This is a spoiler talk, so if you don't want to get spoiled or you don't mind about it, you have been warned!
My non-spoiler review that this movie is not as bad as the reviewers says about it, but it's not as good as the fanboy says about it. But it's entertaining to watch! if you haven't watched it, go watch it!

So let's dive into it shall we?

This movie opens up with the obligatory Bruce Wayne's parents death scene, and then it jumps to the scene in Man of Steel where Superman fights Zod on Metropolis and destroys like 80% of the city.
I think Superman is going to be an overpowered unlock-able character in Rampage game (I loved that game seriously haha)

So Bruce Wayne rushed into the Metropolis and told the PIC on his office to evacuate all the employee on the building. But when Bruce arrived there, it was too late...
He saw his office building crumbling because of Superman's laser eye

Before we continue let's compare one small thing here.
Here's the difference between normal human and Bruce Wayne

Normal People
>building is falling down
>runs away from the falling building

Bruce Wayne
>his office building is falling down
>he runs INTO the building because he wants to save his employee

Badassery and selflessness we saw there, ladies and gentlemen!

After that, he saw his employee's feet getting crushed by steel while screaming "I can't feel my legs"
and he saw one of little girl who wants to meet her mom in the office, and he holds her right in the time before the debris dropped onto her.
and he said "where's your mommy? Don't worry, I'll find her"
and she cried while pointing to the wrecked building. Her mom obviously didn't survive that.
And he holds her while menacingly looking at Superman & Zod's fight.

"I swear to god, I will make you bleed, Superman!"

that

was a good opening scene!

in here we can see Batman's reason to fight Superman. Many people died because of his fight with Zod.

and then we switch to Lois Lane getting somewhere in, I dunno, middle-east location *I forgot* lol.
And she was kinda hold hostage and apparently it was a setup by the CIA to frame Superman. Superman saved Lois Lane, again.

and then some lovey dovey scene between Clark Kent and Lois Lane.of course it is censored here in Indonesia haha

tbh Superman's part of story was not really interesting to me haha

And after some exposition and political issues on Superman's presence in the Earth, we finally introduced to Lex Luthor, I watched Christopher Reeve's Superman and watched a few episodes of Smallville when I was a kid, But I know for sure, this is a very different Lex Luthor that we used to know. He is not a corporate bastard anymore (well he is in this movie, but less corporate vibe here) He is kind of a psychotic/spastic/OCD/atheist main antagonist now. Many people said that he is a miscast, but honestly I'm okay with this Lex Luthor. A breath of fresh air.

u mad bro?

He proposed to the Senator to asks for permission to import the Kryptonite to his lab in order to make a "deterrent" to the Kryptonian aka Superman

We switched to Bruce Wayne again, he is currently looking for "White Portuguese" which he believes that he has the weapon that must be stopped. or that what's he told us/Alfred so we believe that he is into something completely different with the story. But later on Alfred knows that Bruce is after something big, which is killing Superman with Kryptonite!
Btw, this Alfred is the best sassy/sarcastic Alfred ever! He delivers some sarcastic one-liner that made me laugh through out the Movie.

"I'm not great at the advice, Can I interest you in a sarcastic comment?"

And then we switched to Lois Lane again that apparently found that the bullet that pierced her note is not registered everywhere, and she looked everywhere to find where the hell does that bullet came from. Later on, she found out that the bullet is made by Lexcorp.
and my question is, so what? That bullet can't hurt Superman. does that really matter here?

Bruce Wayne suspected that Lex Luthor could be the White Portuguese that he's been looking for, and he wanted to sneak in to Lex's house as Batman, but Alfred was like
"nah bro! you don't need to, just go there, here's an invitation to the event in there"
and he goes there to hack the computer to get some encrypted information from Lex Luthor's house. And he met Clark Kent there, and he was interviewed by Clark Kent. and he asked
"Bruce Wayne, what's your position on Batman vigilante?"
and Bruce was like
"bruh, seriously?"

at that scene, Clark Kent already suspects Bruce Wayne as Batman, because he can hear the communication between Alfred and Bruce from Bruce's earpiece. Alfred told that the data transfer is already completed. so yeah, he runs to the computer room, but he can't find it there, and he saw outside, and there's a mysterious woman who took it from him. and she runs away with Bruce's hard drive.

later on, Lex Luthor's request to the senator regarding the kryptonite import was rejected. and he threatens the senator about it.
Lex Luthor is very menacing on this scene!

later on, Bruce Wayne manages to find the mysterious girl who stole his hard drive, apparently she is looking a photo of her on that Lex Luthor's computer. she told him that she put the hard drive on his car.
That scene with that mysterious woman, reminds me of Catwoman and Bruce Wayne scene in The Dark Knight Rises.

After he arrived at the batcave, he decrypts the data that he got. While decrypting it, Bruce fell asleep.

Ok, honestly this is the part where it goes, WTF happened!?

this part is a setup to the Justice League. If you don't know Justice League, it's an equivalent of Avengers to the Marvel universe

I think this part is kinda out of place since it doesn't add up anything to the story, and it runs around 15-20 mins. This could be better if this was a trailer to the Justice League. better not shown at all at this movie.

Bruce finally woke up and found that white portugese was a ship, not a person. And he rushed himself to go there. He placed a tracer to the container that contains the Kryptonite. I dunno why he have to chase it after he placed the tracer. but who cares, there's a smokin' sick badass car chase scene between Batman and Lex Luthor's thugs!

and then, I don't know why, suddenly Superman showed up and stopped Batman and tear his batmobile apart.
It just doesn't make sense here, it looks like that he is protecting Lex, and why did he suddenly told Batman "Turn off the batsignal, your bat days are over, consider this as a warning!"

like
why??

what's the reason he tell that to Batman?
and then Batman replies with that epic line, yes, that epic line

It IS a badass line,
but still, it doesn't make any sense, why would Superman say that to Batman.

and finally Bruce Wayne found out that the Kryptonite is stored at the Lexcorp's HQ.

And then Superman finally get summoned to the court to be questioned about his motives when he fought crime and saving people, does that act was on his own will or based on government's will.

Lex Luthor set things up to frame Superman by blow the shit out of that courthouse. after that, Lex Luthor went back to his company, and he found out that his Kryptonite is stolen by Batman.

Finally we came down to the moment of truth, Batman v Superman, yay!

Batman already set things up in Gotham, he made a spear out of Kryptonite in order to kill Superman. The thing is,
Superman still have no reason to fight Batman until now, but Lex Luthor wants to made him fight Batman.
First thing first, he kidnapped Lois Lane and push her out of her building, and Superman saved her, again,
and then he told Superman that he got Superman's mother kidnapped, if Superman didn't bring Batman's head to him in 1 hour, Superman's mom will die!

I find it kind of weird, Lex and Batman didn't cooperate on this, but why did he know that Batman is going to fight Superman at that exact day? I know that he set up to provoke Batman by using his ex-employee that loses both of his legs since that superman incident 2 years ago, Lex didn't know about Superman who told Batman to turn off his batsignal. And now Batman turning on his signal to call Superman to fight, isn't that weird? how did Lex know about all this?

So both of them finally have the reason to fight each other. and you know what, Batman kicks ass here, and when he almost deliver the final blow to Superman while holding the Kryptonite spear,
Superman shouts to him,
"You're going to let them kill Martha!"
and to Batman's surprise, he replies
"WHY DO YOU SAY THAT NAME!?"
and Lois Lane told him that it is her mother's name.

It's a good coincidence that their mother shares the same first name, my dad was confused at first and he told me that "What, they're brothers?" that could have been the best plot twist ever in 2K16

and then Batman throws the spear and didn't kill Superman, and he promises Superman to save Martha for him and he will deal with Lex by himself.

at this time I was like
wow
they're bros now,
their fight ended just like that.
if only Superman manages to tell him sooner before they fight, there won't be any fight between them, and this movie title would be very misleading hahahahaha
you know this conflict is actually can be avoided if they talked things through before they fight, but that won't please any comic book fans, we want to watch our biggest nerd wet dream by looking at two iconic superhero from DC comics smash each other!

later on, Batman saves Martha, and yes he is very badass, my friend told me that that scene was like the Arkham Knight style of fighting. I have to play it if I can.

Superman meets Lex, and Lex created Doomsday on Zod's ship

oh I forgot to mention something's bothering me

in the first act of the movie, Lex cuts zod's fingerprint and in the last act of the movie he brought Zod's body to the ship. And he used that fingerprint that he cut in the first act to enter ship

why did he do that? why doesn't he just use Zod's hand to enter the ship? it's really inconvenient for him to be honest.

And Doomsday fights Superman, and Superman brought him to the atmosphere, and for some military reason, they decided to NUKE Superman and Doomsday there.

I mean,

why should they do that? they think the casualties would be only Superman, but it IS still on earth, and that nuke will have some serious radiation contamination on the atmosphere. and apparently President of America agreed to launch that nuke,
wow
can you remind me again that we have global warming issues right now?
hahaha

but who cares about that, as long as we see flashy fight amirite?

Doomsday falls into the earth, and superman floats on the atmosphere

Batman says that Doomsday is a kryptonian, so the thing that only be used to kill him is Kryptonite.

this is where things gets so out of hand on this movie

After Batman and Superman's fight, Lois Lane threw away the Kryptonite spear to the pond.
Yes, she was like "yeah, that thing is dangerous for my bae, I just throw 'em out on this pond!"

and when Batman says that, Lois Lane wanted that spear back,

"oh may gawd, my bae's besties needs this spear to defeat that thing, better take that spear out of from that pond!"

Superman returns from the atmosphere and suddenly Wonder Woman showed up, yes apparently that mysterious woman was Wonder Woman all along!

and the three of them, oh no, 2 of them (Batman can't fight Doomsday head on since he is too stronk!) fight Doomsday

while fighting Doomsday, Lois Lane was trapped on the pond because there's a debris that falls on to the pond, and thankfully Superman hears her almost died there.

and Superman saves her, again, for the n-th time. goddammit lane, she's nothing but a damsel on distress!

Superman sacrifices himself by lounges the spear on Doomsday heart, and Doomsday stabbed him. And the result is

double KO!

both of them dies..
yes

Superman is dead!

another thing that bothers me, why didn't Superman asked Wonder Woman to stab Doomsday with the kryptonian spear while he hold Doomsday? Superman's death could be avoided!

Lex finally got bald in the prison, and Batman warns him that he always look for him if he did something bad again.

Right at the end of the movie, we saw Superman's coffin there's some pebbles are lifting, and yeah...
he is not dead...

whew

that was a long ass post that I write there,

here's the tl;dr version

The good
  1.  A good cinematography, and well directed shots, intense and awesome fighting/car chase scene
  2. Ben Affleck is the best BatmanAt first, I have doubt that he will be a good Batman, but he is indeed the best thing from this movie, he gives his best for this role! and yes he is the most brutal Batman ever.About the "no-killing" policy which what makes Batman is Batman, he totally killed a lot of thugs in this movie, but he mentioned to Alfred that he didn't think that he is a hero. "We're criminals, Alfred, we always are!" I know Batman should be a morally conflicted character since he is a borderline between a hero and a criminal, but in this movie, he clearly stated that they are criminals, so I'm totally okay with this brutal Batman who killed thugs.
  3. Hans Zimmer's score! Especially when Wonder Woman shows up!

The Bad
  1. As you can see on this post, yes, the plot is a scatter mess and didn't really linked up to one and another. So much things happened in this movie!
  2. They tried to set up the Justice League, but it seems like out of place and context in the movie, they should have made a post credit scene or make a trailer out of it
  3. Lack of character development: especially Superman, his character is still the same on Man of Steel
  4. Lois Lane : welp, she is a damsel in distress who did some stupid things and tries to be relevant to the plot. and she did almost nothing to the story
  5. Lex Luthor's motive to hate Superman is unclear. Is there any particular reason why he hates Superman so much in this movie? I don't think so

I honestly entertained watching this movie despite of the flaws and the problem on this movie, it could have been better. One thing for sure, this movie is much more watchable than Transformers : Age of Extinction.

okay guys, this is the end of the post, I hope you enjoyed this long ass spoiler talk on this movie

Thanks for reading!

Star Wars Episode VII - The Force Awakens - Spoiler Review Talk

Okay, this post is going to contain full spoiler review talk from this movie, if you want my non-spoiler review, you can click it here

If you haven't watched it and still reading this, you have been warned!

So Star Wars Episode VII The Force Awakens opens up with the title screen
(me and my girlfriend was squealing when watching the title exposition lol)
and it states that Luke Skywalker is missing.

When I saw that line, I was thinking to myself.
"Oh crap! What happened? Is he going to be evil in this movie?"
But we'll get there later

The story opens up with Poe, which is the best Rebellion pilot (yeah the movie told us so and it was true, All of it!), getting a map that contains Luke Skywalker's whereabouts and he put that map in to his Droid, BB-8 and he told BB-8 to run away from that place and bring back the map to the Rebellion base.

At this point, I was like "Yes, this is familiar, I've seen this on Episode IV"

And then we encounter the First Order that blasted through the place. And we see our main Antagonist here, Kylo Ren!

I really like this reveal seriously, He is just menacingly killed everybody on the camp. And the most epic moment when Kylo Ren stopped a laser blast with the Force. That scene there blew my mind and made my jaw dropped. My god he is a badass!

and later on Poe got captured by the First Order.

I really like the scene where there's a stormtrooper dying because he got shot and he tries to reach another stormtrooper while dying and his blood just marked his friend's helmet. And we can see humanity side of Stormtrooper for awhile.

And it was revealed that the stormtrooper that has been marked with blood was Finn, our main character (or that's what we believed in because the trailer cues that)

and then we switched to Rey, the other main character! She is a scavenger and she lives on a Jakku, a desert planet (which I initially thought that it was Tattooine, but it wasn't)

After Rey's brief introduction, we see that Poe is getting tortured by Kylo Ren to get information about the map (which finally he get the information)

Later on, Poe was saved by Finn and both of them escaped from the First Order ship and get shot and crash landed on Jakku.

At that scene, Finn and Poe feels like a true bro who helped each other and mind you that it's the first 5-6 minutes of the movie and we can see a better bro relationship than Anakin and Obi-Wan in the prequel did on the Episode II and III. *seriously tho hahaha

Finn believes that Poe didn't survive the crash and he walked and met Rey.
They got attacked by the First order and they try to escape it while bringing BB-8 together and look for a spaceship and Finn and Rey's conversation was like
"Hey can you pilot that thing?"
"Yes I can"
"How about that one?"
"That one is garbage!"(at that scene I was like, "I think I know what ship that you were refer as garbage")
And a ship that they headed got destroyed and Rey was like
"The garbage will do"
damn that scene was hilarious.XD

And the garbage was of course The Millenium Falcon! And then an awesome dog fight scene. I really liked Finn and Rey's chemistry during this dog fight scene.

And then we met Han Solo and Chewbacca (This scene makes me emotional for a sec, damn it's really good to see them back)

Okay, let's talk about Kylo Ren, He is revealed that he is Han Solo's and Leia's son. And that makes me feel like "OMG! This is going to be a family matter again".

And we see that Kylo Ren is actually not a Sith Lord, I should have noticed it because there's no Darth title on him. But Snoke (which looks awfully similar like Gollum from The Lords of The Rings) didn't have Darth title as well. I'm not really sure what happened and this plot hole bothers me and I hope they will explain it in the next movies.

It wasn't explained in detail but Luke Skywalker trained some people to be a Jedi and some of his apprentice betrayed him and it makes everything wrong. And we can assume that traitor was Kylo Ren and he was seduced by the Dark Side. Before this plot point was revealed, I was thinking
"Is this some kind of trend? A Jedi Master goes to exile and hide in the unknown planet."
But Luke's action makes sense, because Kylo Ren is Han Solo's and Leia's Son, He feels ashamed that he couldn't trained Kylo Ren better and failed them as a friend and as a Jedi Master. He feels guilty about it.

Kylo Ren is also still young and haven't finished his training as a Sith. We can see that when he tries to get the information from Rey. Because she fights back by using the Force and he couldn't do anything about it.

We can also see him having a dilemma of him about going back to the light side. That kind of struggle makes me think that "Damn, Anakin's dilemma should be executed like this"

I think people will start comparing him to Darth Vader and the fact that he loses to someone who never fights using light saber before will make people say "Man, Kylo Ren is lame"
but hear this
Kylo Ren is neither a fully trained Jedi nor Sith, So I find his lack of skill is not disturbing (see what I did there? lol)
While Darth Vader, he was almost a Jedi Master (even Obi-Wan himself acknowledged his skills), and he have fought countless battle during the Clone Wars.
So I can see potential of Kylo Ren's character development in the next 2 episodes.

And now let's talk about Rey. My god this girl is a badass! In the trailer, we saw that Finn is going to be the main character and he is going to be a Jedi. But it wasn't! It was Rey all along!

(I really loved that Trailer because it didn't reveal any plot points)

She is Force sensitive, and I really like her natural Jedi Ability and she might be a better Jedi Master than Luke someday. She used the Jedi Mind Trick on the Stormtrooper when she was captured (which people next to me thought that she was reading the stormtrooper's mind, yeah, I facepalmed at that too)
even though it takes 2-3 times before she manages to pull it off.

And I really love that scene where Kylo Ren is trying to pull the lightsaber by using the Force and it pans out and BAM! the lightsaber flew through him and Rey holding up the lightsaber. My god that scene makes me thrill seriously!

And there's this scene that shocks me, when Kylo Ren (or Ben Solo) killed his father.
And that scene feels like Game of Thrones, where it was emotionally touching at first, but then that person just get ruthlessly murdered.
When I watched that, I froze because I was too shocked!
I can't even feel mad about the fact that Ben killed Han Solo!
And Chewbacca was like "YOU BASTARD!" and he shot Ben from the distance and he managed to shot him which makes Kylo Ren during the final fight beating his chest to endure the pain.

damn I didn't really see that coming
Apparently Han Solo's death scene was spoiled on the internet before this movie came out, but I managed to avoid it because I decided to signed out from the Internet before I watched the movie. And boy I'm glad that I did

After Kylo Ren is defeated, Snoke was like, "Bring him to me, I will complete his training"
Ok, the next movie, he is going to be more badass *hopefully*

After that, Rey goes to the planet where Luke Skywalker is hiding, and she showed the lightsaber to him and..... the movie ends!

and that makes me wanted to see more of this movie! Seriously! This is a very well directed movie that has  great script and very engaging story telling! It's awesome! I really can't wait to watch the next episode! XD

Okay that's it guys, Hope you enjoyed my spoiler review (or rambling to be precise), If you are a Star Wars fan, this movie is a MUST WATCH! XD

Star Wars Episode VII - The Force Awakens - Movie Review

Hey Guys! It’s been awhile! Sorry I’ve been so crazy busy with work this past 3 months and didn’t have the time to write a lot ^_^;
I hope I will be able to post weekly just I used to be next year... hahaha!

So I just watched Star Wars VII The Force Awakens yesterday with my girlfriend. And boy...

IT WAS FREAKING AWESOME! XDDD

In this post, I’m going to post my non-spoiler review since I really embrace the idea of enjoying something without getting spoiled. But I will post a spoiler review in the next post.
So without further a due.. Let’s jam!

The events on Star Wars Episode VII The Force Awakens took place 30 years after Episode VI. So I wouldn’t recommend this movie for those who haven’t watched the original Star Wars trilogy (Episode IV, V, VI) because it will make you ask questions like.
“Who is this old man?”
“What is that furry guy thing?”
“Why is everybody understand what does the furry guy say
while he is just saying ‘AURGGHHHHH!’ ?”
“OMG! DID SHE JUST READ THAT ROBOT’S MIND?” -> actual question that emerged when I watched this yesterday, and that person sits right next to me.

This movie is directed by J.J Abrams. When this movie is announced and heard that he is the one who is going to direct this movie I was like
“Okay, he did very good on Star Trek movie. I hope he won’t make this movie suck like the prequel trilogy.”
And J.J Abrams’ signature (If I can say it that way) is he tends to give a lot of lens flares, which is kinda annoying for me. If you watched the Star Trek movie, you’ll know what I’m saying.
And thank god he didn’t do that on this movie hahaha.

I really like how J.J. Abrams shot the scene on this movie. There are some cinematic scene that makes me think like “Man, I’d screenshot that scene and make a wallpaper from it”
Unlike the prequel trilogy, I really really care about the characters on this movie! I even care for the stormtroopers. Because this movie actually gives them humanity and more personality.
Finn and Rey’s chemistry is really great! I really love those two new star wars character!
Rey as character is really cool and her actions always makes me want to say “You go gurl!” during the movie
Poe is an amazing character! His piloting skill is superb.I just wished I see more of him.
Speaking of piloting, the dog fight in this movie is really amazing!
Kylo Ren is an amazing antagonist character. Unfortunately I didn’t see Captian Phasma doing much on this movie but I really liked the character design.
And there’s Yayan and Iko Uwais, 2 famous Indonesian actors from “The Raid”
as an Indonesian, I’m really proud seeing those 2 on this movie
and they actually have lines to say. TvT b

Oh I forgot to mention that soundtrack is amazing and John Williams is back to compose it, and I really love the music XD

This movie is 2 and a half hours long and I didn’t feel any single dull moment on this movie. And when it ends I was like “AAARGHHH!” and I looked to my girlfriend and asked her
“EPISODE VIII WHEN?!”

Yes, this movie has its flaws as well, some plot holes, but the thing is, this is a trilogy, so I hoped they will answer and cover up the plot holes in the next episode.
So, does this movie worth the hype? Yes, it does deserve the hype and it does lived up to the hype and as for me, it exceeds my expectations.

Should you watch it? If you have watched the original trilogy, yes you should watch it! If you haven’t watch the original trilogy, I recommend you to watch it first before watching this movie. And if you have watched the original trilogy and haven’t watched Episode VII, well, what are you doing? Stop reading this post and just go out and watch it now! XD

Inside Out - Movie Review

Hey Guys! Welcome back to my weekly blog post! This week I'm going to post something a little bit different from my usual post. Usually I post anything related to anime stuff.. Well this time.. is anim-ated movie (Japanese called anything animated as anime, so yeah) that just I watched yesterday with my girlfriend. Inside Out! A Pixar-Disney movie! At first, I want to watch Battle of Surabaya since it got a lot of "This is our local work! 10/10" reviews, So I really want to watch it... but unfortunately that movie isn't showing everywhere near my house *lol seriously*, So we watched Inside Out instead, and boy, I'm glad we did.

Anyway, Inside Out is released quite late here in Indonesia. We just got this movie released here like 2 weeks ago *probably, I forgot hahaha

Before I watch a movie (or anime/TV series), I tend to be as clueless as possible. I just sit there, and watch the movie. That's how I enjoy something that I watch, So I'm quite sensitive to spoiler. I really love the "not-knowing-what-will-happen-in-this movie". It's fun for me! *that's why I usually review something and tried as hard as possible to not spoil it for the reader so they can enjoy the movie/anime just like I did.

The same thing with Inside Out, I'm really curious what's this movie is all about

I'm going to be less structural than my anime review this time. and as usual, this is a non-spoiler review. but at some point I will put spoiler warning so you won't get spoiled XP

It's not a Pixar-Disney movie if there's no short animated film before the movie started. And it's called Lava. It's about a mountain, in the sea. that mountain is so lonely. I cried and moved by this short movie. (this month's I managed to cry over a mountain and a tadpole shrimp *from Non Non Biyori Repeat*. Achievement Unlocked! Crybaby grown ass man!) Not going to spoil you or anything, but this short animated movie is really interesting and beautiful. Usually the short movie from pixar tends to use almost no narration at all. It's just the animation that tells the story to the audience. This time around, the story exposition delivered through song narrative. It delivers a really sweet love story in just 5 mins. damn it pixar! This short animated movie is one of my favorite after Paperman which featured before Wreck-It-Ralph

Let's talk about the movie now!
Have you ever wondered about what happens in your head when you think of something, feel about something, perceived about something, or memorize about anything that ever happen in your life? This movie describes those kinds of phenomenon that happens in your daily life. So there's 5 personified emotions inside of everyone's head:
1)  Joy, who is in charge for making happy and fun thoughts. (which looks like Ellen DeGeneres somehow)
2) Disgust. who is in charge of to feel disgust *well duh, or as she describes is to protect from poisoning both physically and socially (best character lol)
3) Anger, who is in charge to feel angry for anything
4) Fear, Who is in charge to protect everybody from potential disasters or dangers or in other words, feeling scared and worried about anything
5) and lastly, Sadness, who is in charge for making sad and gloomy thoughts which is the polar opposite character of Joy

*these characters reminds me Metal Gear Solid 3 : Snake Eater boss seriously hahaha! The Fury, The Fear, The Joy, The Sorrow
These 5 emotions are in charge to control every body's emotion, storing their memories based on the emotion felt during that memories. And in that memories there's core memories that shaped someone's personality. Which makes that particular someone is that particular someone!
So this movie is all about that. And it takes a story of something that really happens in a girl named Riley. She is very loved by her parents, have her friends, and loves to play hockey, and she is a very honest and wacky girl. Which makes her core memory is dominated by Joy.

The problem starts when she have to moved from Minnesota in San Francisco because of his dad's job. And the story goes into Riley's head and telling how she feels about moving from her old place to a new one. How did Riley feel when she moved to San Francisco? That's all I can say about the story.

I enjoyed watching this movie and loved the concept of it so much! As I mentioned in my Projective Technique post, Sometimes it is hard for people to describe how they feel. Because it is a very complex and abstract thing and cannot be measured by numbers *except we live in Sibyl System lol*
What makes me even enjoy this movie is because this movie managed to describe anything that happens in every body's (including animals) head in a very simple way! For example :
1) This movie describes the long term memory which is stored in a big shelf and shaped like maze.
2) Memory dump, which dump some memories that is not really needed, or in other words, Forgotten
3) Subconscious, which is a prison in the dark abyss of the thought which stores deep darkest fear.
4) Imagination land, where the imagination is stored *my favorite part of this movie lol
5) Dreamworks Production Studio which describes how dreams works *pun detected
6) Train of thought, which is a very nice pun. It's a train that carries thoughts or memories
7) How pop-up memories works. You know, when suddenly you remember a catchy tune in your head
8) I really like the emotion who dominates the control of emotion are different for every body
for example, Riley is dominated by Joy, her Father is dominated by Anger which describes him as an hotheaded spirited man, and her mother is dominated by Sadness which means she is a melancholic person. I personally think that I am dominated by Joy and second lead would be disgust since I'm a very skeptical person sometimes lololol
9) The concept of feeling empty or void. Where the emotion tries to press the console control but it doesn't work.
I think the theme itself is quite deep and abstract and I honestly kinda doubt that kids will fully understand what is actually they watching. Maybe teenagers can still understand this.

And I really like the ending and the message that it delivers from the ending which is.......

*SPOILER ALERT*

When we talk about moving it means it's about growing up and how we adapt to a new place if that place is not as good as the old one and growing up is not an easy matter. It is okay to be sad about it, It doesn't mean that you have throw away your actual feelings because it is a negative one. It is OK to accept and be honest about how you feel about yourself and tell about how you feel.

*SPOILER ENDS*

Should you watch this? Definitely yes! It's a very unique movie with complex concept which is presented in a simple and fun way.

That's all I can say about this movie. I honestly cried a lot during this movie, I laughed a lot, I feel disgusted at some point, and I feel scared too. Damn it Pixar! Stop playing with our emotions! X'D
What if they make a cross-over between Toy Story and Inside Out which describes what's on those toy's head? Who knows...
