I honestly never watched Garo before. Heck, I'm not even familiar with it at all! But I only know "Yeah dude, this is an Adult tokusatsu series, by adult I mean, there's a lot of cleavages!" when it comes to Garo. So, when it showed up on Fall 2014, I didn't really check it out. Until my friend told me "dude you have to watch it!". So I've watched it, It is a 24 episodes series long with normal air time done by Studio MAPPA. How was it? Let's just jump into the review!
Story
The story took place in a medieval ages, In Valiente Kingdom, Some kind of Spanish inquisition. where witch hunt is a thing on that era. Witches are perceived to be a bad thing. But in actuality, they are not bad! Witches are keeping the order and peace in secret. In this world, there are monsters called "Horrors". And the witches which are Alchemist and Makai Knights are the one who destroys them. The king's right hand, Mendoza, convinces the king to urge the witch hunt and kill all of them by burning them alive. One day, there's a pregnant witch that is being burned alive, and then suddenly a Makai Knight named German, saved the child from that burning pregnant witch. And then 17 years has passed, the saved child is named Leon. He is under German's supervision and training to become the proper Makai Knight. And both of them hunt the Horrors together and looking for the source where those horrors come from. Will they succeed?
My thoughts on the series
When I watched the first episode of this series, I'm hooked instantly! It feels like the first chapters of Berserk Manga. But less serious than Berserk. This series is quite dark and I must say the theme is very mature. Now I understand why this is a series for mature audiences when it comes to Tokusatsu series haha
This series has unique and interesting characters. I care for all the characters in this series, (well except the main villain, because I hate him!). And from the first episode alone, German is insta-best character for me! He is a badass character but laid back at the same time. He feels like Spike Spiegel from Cowboy Bebop but the main difference is that he is a womanizer.
Speaking of characters, I really like the character arc for Leon. I hardly can like him as a character at first episodes because he is like this angry teenager at all time. But in the end, he makes a good differences and have a great character development.
This series' is almost episodic at first. But later on, it continues on as a series. Which is great for world building and giving us the exposition that we need to understand how their world looks like and how their world works.
The animation is done by Studio MAPPA. And my god they did deliver! the animation looks solid and cool! Especially eps 18. I won't spoil it for you, but the fighting animation is so good! SAO's fighting animation can go to hell and cry watching this super good animation! When they "henshin" wearing Makai Armor, the animation became 3D CG, it could be jarring for some people. But for me, it looks good for this anime! Mostly people will complain about 3DCG because it feels out of place in anime. But it works in this anime since Makai Knights and Horror are "out of this" world.
The soundtrack is awesome! There are a lot of outstanding tracks for this anime. Especially when they fight as Makai Knights. Every Makai Knights have their own theme song, and when the music cues in, it is sure impactful! My favorite track would be Rafael's theme. The song has choir and my god it is beyond epic! Just listen to this track!
The Opening is done by JAM Project. There are two songs and I think both of them nailed the feel of the series. And for me this two Openings are the one that I won't skip when the episode plays. Because JAM Project always deliver great and epic songs! As for the ending song, they also are good!
Actually I don't really have problems with this anime at all except for the plot which is somehow predictable for me but still doesn't ruin the experience and my enjoyment for this series. But I think people would be have some problem with the 3D CG Makai Armor. Because that's what people in anime community mostly complain in anime hahahaha!
So final thoughts? Should you watch Garo : Honoo no Kokuin? A solid yes for me if you enjoyed dark fantasy. It's a brilliantly written and crafted animated series that you should be watching right now! It has great animation, great story, great characters, and amazing soundtracks! XD
That's it from me guys, I hope that you will find this review useful for you. This is Reikichi, signing out!
DISCLAIMER: These are my thoughts on the anime adaptation, not the light/web novel series, so keep that in mind when you read this. Are we clear on this? Let's jam!
Welcome back to the "After Thoughts" segment of this blog! If you don't know, "After Thoughts" is a segment where I talk about my thoughts on the anime and it contains spoiler. This is a review (kinda), but more unstructured compared to my usual reviews. If I go spoiler review, I'd talk about the details on the things that I review just like my review on BvS. This time, I'm going to talk about the anime that people won't shut up about it on the internet on 2016, Re:Zero kara isekai seikatsu or Re: Zero for short. It's a 25 eps anime, while the first episode was 50 mins long, and the other one is normal episode length.
This is probably the second anime that I talked on my blog that contains "Re: " as a title. Which is Re Life. We had a lot of anime that started with "Re" on this year to be honest lol.
So, this anime is about a guy named Natsuki Subaru that suddenly out of nowhere thrown into the fantasy world. And for some reason, he have some special gimmick when he transported into that other world. Every time he dies, he respawned at a certain moment, and everything will reset from the start. It's kinda like playing a game. When you reach a checkpoint and you died before reaching the goal or the next check point, you'll start from the checkpoint. The thing is, Subaru can't tell anybody in the world that he has that kind of gimmick. Why? I dunno, Some kind of magical power grabbed his heart whenever he tried to say that. (no, seriously tho)
The concept alone is not really new, since there are a lot of anime these days that used "Trapped in the other world" as the setting, Probably because most of the otaku author didn't really know how real world works, so they make their own world for their story. But personally, I also enjoyed some of those setting. And the time loop concept is already used for other series as well like, All you need is kill (or the Hollywood movie version, The Edge of Tomorrow), Steins;Gate (which is handled by the same studio that made this anime, White Fox). or Madoka Magica. I can't help but to compare Re: Zero to those 3 series (which is you should check it out if you haven't read/watch it).
Okay, here's my thoughts on the series. Watching this anime feels like watching a Let's play series on Youtube and the"Let's players" (LP) is playing a Visual Novel. And he played it pretty badly which makes him end up on "Bad end" situation. Or LP who played Dark Souls, and the LP didn't learn anything from his previous encounters. So he died a lot and he didn't progress that much. Subaru made a lot of bad decisions that led him to a very bad situations and even worse, leading to his own death. And most of the time, he didn't really learn from his experience that he gained before.
The first 11 episodes stories are entertaining to be honest, establishing how Subaru's gimmick works on that world, World building (by world building, I mean, the general idea, it doesn't go into details, they are just too vague about it). Side characters back story, especially Rem (which is my favorite character in this series). But the first episode, as I mentioned earlier, took like 50 mins, And that is the amount of time that Subaru learns about his gimmick. Maybe Subaru is just a little bit too slow on understanding what is actually happening to him when he died. But strangely enough that he grasped the idea of "Oh, I'm in another world now"- so quickly.
After the first 11 episodes,
it goes downhill from there (until episode 18),
from episode 12-18, I really hate Subaru as a character. He is very obnoxious (He is an obnoxious person from the start, but at this point, he just become more obnoxious). He doesn't really listen to other people, a self-centered person, and he feels that he is so important because he thinks that he is the hero that other world deserves but not the one it needs right now (*the dark knight intensifies*). On episode 12, he really doesn't know his place. He self-proclaimed himself as a knight of representatives for Emilia (which is his main love interest in the series) in front of the Saint knights of the kingdom. Julius, one of the Saint Knights, questions Subaru's knighthood. To that, Subaru's responded with "What's so good about knight anyway?". Julius got triggered, and later on, he challenges Subaru for a "sparring session" . And Julius whap the shit out of Subaru. Normally, if the main character got tortured, we will feel empathy towards him/her. But this time is different. When I watch it, I feel like
"YES! HE DESERVES THAT!"
And there's eps 15, or I must say "the lowest point of Subaru", where he witnessed his friends died and he died horribly on the previous episode. He just lost his mind at that time, And because of that, Rem decided to brought him back to the Emilia's mansion. On their way there, they are ambushed by the witch cultist. Subaru was captured, and Rem tries to save him. And then he witness Rem got tortured and she had some "twisted" experience and she died horribly (and became a meme)
just to clear things up, the twister is not actually showed up on the actual episode
Subaru snapped when he saw Rem. He manages to escape from the witch cultist and went to the mansion, carrying Rem's dead body and suddenly there's a blizzard. He witnessed that everyone has fallen as a witch cultist victim. And then he saw a large monster, and it killed him.
That particular episode was too depressing seriously. But somehow that is one of my favorite moments in the anime. I just love to see Subaru suffer. XP
And finally, episode 18, where Subaru shares his sorrow, he admits that he is not a good person and made a lot of bad decisions. He tried to be important and he admits that he is not. and then Rem confess to him. "Don't worry Subaru, if that's how you see yourself like that, I see you in a different way, I see good things from you, because I love you/" But Subaru be like "Rem, plz, I love Emilia". and that phrase, (you guessed it) it became a meme.
probably the best thing I've found on google search hahahaha
And they love Emilia before it was cool! They love Emilia since 2012! Own it, Subaru!
And after he rejects Rem, He asked Rem for help to help him helping Emilia. (my god). After all that Rem has done to him, Really Subaru? what an asshat.
But his personality gets "better" after eps 18. He finally starts to listen to other people, he learns a bit from his past death experience. And even he apologize to Julius befriended him. But yeah, took him long enough.
This series has its good points, well the story made me care about the side characters like Rem and Wilhelm (Not to be mistaken as Wilhelm Scream). Wilhelm's backstory is really touching, his quest for revenge to his deceased wife to the White Whale was awesome. I find it kinda similar to the legendary Moby Dick story. While Rem's history is based on a Japanese "Red and blue demon" with a twist. Things that I enjoy the most is seeing Subaru changes from an optimistic self-proclaimed hero at the beginning into a mentally broken protagonist. Seriously tho, with his attitude, he deserves to suffer! X'D
The animation quality is consistent throughout the series. The voice acting are fantastic. The soundtrack is fitting with the situation. Especially that one soundtrack that always played when Subaru screw things up.
This particular soundtrack is too creepy. But it fits the tone seriously hahaha
As for the OP and the ED. Well, It's not my kind of music. It's good for some people, I guess. The character designs are cute, especially Mimi. Her character design is just too adorable!
I can haz cheezburgerz! NOM!
But despite of those good points, this show has some major issues as well. for example:
It really bugs me that how well Subaru adapted himself to the other world that he just suddenly got into. It feels so "inhuman". I think normal person would react "Oh what is this place!?" or at least shocked in the first place. While Subaru be like "oh yeah, this must be a fantasy world! I must have magic or some shit" and he feels that "It's my destiny to be the hero of this world now!" without questioning "why am I here? how could this happen to me? why me?" Which makes it hard (for me, at least) to relate to him as a main character. .
There are a lot of major plot hole that is left unexplained, why do people fear and hate the jealous witch so much? Why there's a cultist who worships her? Why Subaru can't tell his gimmick to other person? Why does Subaru have that kind of gimmick? At the finale, what did Subaru write on the gospel's book? Was it beetlegeuse's name? After he did that, beetelguese suddenly dies, so does it work just like Death Note? Because I think Beetleguese's death is kind of an asspull.
if anyone can read that, please tell me what he wrote there.
As I watch this series until the end, a lot of questions appeared. And sadly, it didn't have some explanations to it.
I really don't know how this series will wrap up. Usually if a series goes like this, I'd be very happy theorizing and guessing how will this series end. But really, I don't know how this will all end. I mean, what's the end goal to this story? What's the point of this series? What's the point of Subaru's suffering? If I have to compare it with "All you need is kill" the main character looped in order to beat the aliens. Or like Okarin from Steins;Gate, where he must do the time loop in order to undo everything that he has done by time travelling to save his childhood friend. While Re: Zero? I don't really see the end goal. To save Emilia? To make Emilia the ruler of the land? To make Subaru get into Emilia's pants? ^_^;
They don't really spend a lot of time in the world building. I'd love to know the detail about the world that they live in, especially in a fantasy world setting. The political situation, what kind of creature or species are they? Why do they have special abilities? Where do they come from? What do they eat besides Ringa and hambagah? What kind of sorcery/technology that they used when they fight the White Whale? I mean it has beams and shit. They have 25 episodes, and they can manage to fit in 1 episode just for Subaru rambling about himself, why don't they spend 1 episode on world building? I do hope the original source build the world better
It's not clear how the checkpoint works. I mean, the checkpoint is always realized when Subaru is dead. and he always respawned perfectly on a certain "story arc" before he start screwing things up. I think that is too convenient. It feels that Subaru is a walking Deus ex Machina (plot device). He is there because the plot said it and need him to be there in order to "progress" the plot. There's no explanation why does the checkpoint started on that exact moment or what kind of condition that Subaru have to achieve first in order to reach the checkpoint? Is it boss battle? Or kill someone? Well if you played Crash Bandicoot, we know that we have to destroy the box with "C" marking on it. Or In Dark Souls, you have to light up the Bonfire. You get the idea.
Continuing from last point, Subaru feels like a walking deus ex machina, because whenever the plot need him, he just do it to continue the story. When the plot must progress, suddenly he became the smartest person ever. But like I said before and I feel like I'm repeating myself again, most of the time he is just too stupid and made a lot of bad and stupid decisions which led him to his misery and suffering. When he suddenly became clever, it feels out of his character, really.
Subaru's love for Emilia is kinda weird and feels like a forced love story. It looks like he is just a horny teenager who wants to get the first girl that he saw. I mean, Emilia literally did nothing to him and he just met her. You can argue "But she saved Subaru at the first episode and she is nice to him! And don't forget that lap pillow that Emilia always give to him!", But that's just it, right? Just 1 saving moment, and she's generally being nice to everyone. Lap pillow? Well, that's really helpful when witch cultist suddenly attack them. If those are the reason why he is head over heels about her, that is way too cheesy! It sounds like Disney's Frozen when Anna and Hans met for the first time and suddenly they decided to get married. Yeah, seems like a believable love story to me. (-_____-); This entire show is all about Subaru saving Emilia. But his motivation to fall in love that deeply and trying that hard to save Emilia is just too weak. If Emilia did anything just like Rem did, I think that is enough reason for Subaru. Because she is the girl who is worth dying for. Without that, Subaru choosing Emilia over Rem sounds idiotic. Because Rem is the best girl, and she deserves to be loved like that. Which leads me to the next point.
"Rem is best girl", well yes, that is true. But why did I put her in the "issues" section? Just because she is the most fleshed out character among other characters. Other characters are actually interesting and have their unique traits and personality, but we saw a lot of Rem instead of other characters. So yeah, Rem is obviously the best girl just because the show gives her a lot of spotlight instead of other characters.
The ending is "go read the LN" ending. But all the material (up to the release of the finale of this anime) is all used up based on this article. It definitely needs another season, but knowing that the material is not yet finished and already used up, it won't come any sooner. Please anime industry, adapt some material that is already finished. T_T
So here comes the final verdict, should you watch Re: Zero? Maybe. myeh.... I guess,
Don't get me wrong, it's still a good show, barely. It's not-"Oh, dude! You should totally check this out!"-kind of good. Mediocre at best. Slightly above average. Barely passed my passing grade. But for me, it doesn't live up to the hype on the anime community and it's not a masterpiece at all since it has a lot of issues in it. If you enjoyed it, well good for you! But personally, I'd better rewatch The Edge of Tomorrow, because that movie is awesome!
okay those are my after thoughts on Re: Zero. I hope you enjoyed this segment. This is Reikichi, signing out!
This question is for you, adult readers, have you ever wondered what would happen if your appearance is a lot more younger than you are right now (let's say, your appearance looks like a High-schooler) but you got keep your experience and your adult-mind-like and you are thrown into the high school and living your life as a high schooler?
Of course, we would act and see differently compared to how we did back then in our high-school days.
So why did I ask about this question to you in the upper hand? Because that was the setting of this new Anime coming up on this Summer 2016. My friend on twitter recommend this anime, and my god, it was a ride! So what's it all about? Let's just dive into it!
The story starts with our main protagonist, Kaizaki Arata, a 27 year old man, who is currently a NEET (Not in Education, Employment, or in Training) and struggling to get a new job. He left his previous job that he had working for 3 months, he left that particular company because of reasons (which I won't spoil you). He tried to keep his image as a "working person" in front of his friends. At one fateful night, his mother called him and told him that she wouldn't support him financially any more. When he feel "oh dang, what should I do now? I want to look for jobs, but I can't get any right now", enter Ryo Yoake, a person from ReLIFE laboratory and asked Arata to be the experiment of ReLIFE. He is going to give Arata a medicine that'd make his appearance looks like a teenager, and he is asked to live his life on a high school for a year. If Arata did pretty good during that 1 year period, he will got a proper job.
Arata hesitated at first, because everything seems too sketchy, added with Yoake claiming that he has been stalking Arata for a month. (yeah, I'd feel very suspicious too ^_^;).
But in the end Arata took the medicine and living his ReLIFE,
How will it turn out for Arata? How was his school life?
Just watch the anime. dude! XD
My thoughts on this series are :
I didn't expect that I will enjoy this series so much! This series can be watched by either adult audience or teen audience. It has a very relatable story (for me, as an adult audience).
The setting actually is not really something "breakthrough" it feels like me, playing Persona games (1 year period story, high school setting, etc). And that medicine feels like APTX 4869 from Detective Conan. Unlike Conan, in ReLIFE there's a medicine that'd make their appearance normal again.
The characters felt so real. It's been awhile that I watch anime that I can see a real person that would do the same thing as the characters in the anime!
I'm glad that the main character is normal person (aka not an Otaku), so I can relate a lot to him as an adult (haha). I think the "otaku" main character is over used in the anime these days (yeah, seriously tho). Besides, it didn't really fit in this story (if you watched the anime, you'll understand why I say this)
There's no overarching conflict and misunderstanding throughout the series. Every conflict is resolved properly and it didn't carry out to the next episode.
The soundtrack! oh my god! I really love the BGM, and the opening & ending song (which changes on every episode) really fits in the anime!
The only thing I complain about this anime is the animation it self, it feels "normal" like a middle budget animation. It reminds me of the first season of Oregairu. but in the second season, they improve the animation a lot. and hopefully ReLIFE will get a better looking season 2. Perhaps the budget of the anime went to the soundtrack, since there are a lot of awesome artist at the ending song, like Laruku, Brilliant Green, TM Revolution, Porno Grafitti, etc.
The ending! arghh! I can't say much about this since this is a non-spoiler review! but the ending makes me desperately asking for season 2! hahaha!
A friend of mine, who read the manga, told me that they skipped a lot of arcs, But so far I didn't see that many plotholes in this anime, probably I should start reading too ^_^;
Otoya An best girl (yes, I'm weak against megane 2D girls (^///^); )
asdafasdgasdgag!!!
And the final verdict, should you watch ReLIFE? Definitely yes! It's worth your time! Go watch it! You can marathon it right away! Thank god they release it 13 episodes at once!
So those are my thoughts on ReLIFE. I hope that you will find this review useful for you. This is Reikichi! Signing out! XD
Since the new season has started and I've watched quite a bit anime this season. I'm going to share my thoughts which anime series that I'll be watching this season (despite of me haven't watched a lot of anime in previous seasons lol XP)
So. without further a due, let's jam!
Honestly this season has more diversity/variation of genre compared to the last season, last season we had a lot of your-typical-light-novel-anime-adaptation-that-has-an-OP-or-too-edgy-for-you-main-character-that-a-lot-of-the-female-character-on-that-anime-fall-for-him-for-absolutely-no-reason
and this season we have Hundred
Hundred
Someone told me that there's a reason why it is called "Hundred", because there are hundreds of this kind of anime series. lol
nope, I won't watch this hahahaha
*starting up with a very bad joke XP
Flying Witch
Flying witch is on my watch list and I've watched the first episode of it, it's been a while that we have a very good slice of life anime since Non Non Biyori, this anime has the same vibe to it. The animation is stunningly beautiful! Props to J.C Staff! If you love Azumanga Daioh, Yotsuba&, or Non Non Biyori, I think you should watch it! it's really tranquil, silly, and more importantly heart warming to watch!
Gyakuten Saiban/Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney
Have you ever played Phonix Wright : Ace Attorney games? This is the anime adaptation of the first game! I've watched the first episode and it was...ok.....I guess.. it's quite faithful to the first game and it might bring you nostalgia to those who've played it. But the animation is just so-so (that is to be expected from A-1 Pictures seriously ^_^;) and the opening song is just so meh, but the ending song is good though. I'm not really sure that I will continue watch this anime again.. I'd recommend you for those who haven't watched the anime or played the game, just watch the Live action movie! It's very hilarious! XD
Joker's Game
I haven't watched it, but since it's a seinen series, definitely going to watch it! It looks promising since Production I.G made this series!
Kiznaiver
Here's another anime by Studio TRIGGER! well the last anime they made is Ninja Slayer the animation which is quite........bizarre hahaha! But the premise is quite promising, *yes I haven't watched it yet XP. I've read the synopsis and there's a kizuna system where they share wounds....
that is very interesting. they made a pun between "Kizu" which means wound and "Kizuna" which means bonds. So yeah, I'm intrigued with that concept, so I'll definitely check this series out!
Sakamoto desu ga?/I'm Sakamoto. you know?
I've read the manga and it's very hilarious! And I've watched the first episode of the anime and it successfully made me laugh like a drunken seal. X'D
if you loved Nichijou or Danshi kokosei no Nichijou, you'd love this series as well!
Sakamoto is an epic swag fabulous student, and that draws attention from everybody at his school, and most of the male student hates him for it, but he always manages his way through the problem with style and cool attitude! a must watch this season! XD
JoJo's Bizarre Adventure : Part 4 - Diamond is Unbreakable
Yes! It's finally here! The best part of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure! David Production is still handling this anime series and I'm very happy when they announced this anime! The art style is following the later arc in the manga, so it might surprise for those who didn't read the manga and just watched the anime. "Why Jotaro suddenly looks so skinny? My god!"
Can I talk about the anime opening song? Yes, it's catchy as hell!
again, it might bogged for those who only watched the anime
"Why is it so fun? It's not manly like it used to be! Urgh!"
dude please, Part 4 is way more fun than previous JoJo series. and it has interesting plot and intense action just like the usual! I can see that Hirohiko Araki-sensei (the author of JJBA) is trying to be explore what he can do to the series on this part, and he nailed it so hard!
and for the ending song is I Want You by Savage Garden and it fits the theme as well.
anyway, am I the only one who hears "Duwang" on the Reff of that song? lol
okay guys, that's all the list that I'm going to watch for this season, if you feel that there's another series that I should check it out, just let me know in the comments below!
I've been so busy the whole month and actually I took a week leave last week but I spent most of the time playing Monster Hunter all the time until it raised my play time from 280 hours to 330 hours now *lol I played a lot*
So here I am now back with the *hopefully* weekly blog post haha
Anyway, can I hype for a second that finally JoJo's Bizarre Adventure Part 4 : Diamond is Unbreakable (Diamond wa kudakenai) is finally confirmed?? XDD
I really can't wait to see duwang Morioh got animated! Finally we're going to see Kira Yoshikage, Rohan Kishibe, Koichi, Josuke, Okuyasu and Mikitaka! Yes! Freaking Mikitaka! Can't wait to see him eating a tissue in glorious David Pro animation X'D
I really hope they use the same seiyuu cast as in the JoJo All Star Battle game. Because I'm already accustomed to the casts.. If they do, that'll be awesome! XD
And as for the ending theme song, I think the first ending should be "Shine on You Crazy Diamond" by Pink Floyd and the second ending would be either "Killer Queen" or "Another one Bites the Dust" by Queen.. Please David Pro. make it happen! XD
So Fall anime has been started like 3 weeks ago and I haven't posted anything for the past 1 month.. so? let's do this!
One Punch Man : I read the manga like 1 year ago and I loved it! So when it is announced that the Manga is getting an Anime adaptation, I was hype as hell! And I've watched the first 2 episodes... and IT WAS HYPE AS HELL! My god Madhouse, You have done it again! You gave my hype and you have answered my hype and make it even better than I expected... And the opening song is just too manly! Probably the best OP of this season or even this year XP
I hope they cover a lot of arcs on the manga and continue it on to the second season.. XD
Lupin III : L'Avventura Italiana : I am a big fan of Lupin III, Well I haven't watched all of the series lol. But I'm hooked with Lupin III since I watched the movie, "Lupin III : The Caslte of Cagliostro" which is directed by Hayao Miyazaki. It is an old anime movie that is worth checking out if you haven't watched it!
anyway,I've watched 2 episodes of these anime, and it was awesome! The animation is stunningly beautiful and the art style looks modern but classic as well.. *I am confused to describe this part hahaha* and thank god they brought back the Lupin III theme for the opening song! XD
You should watch this if you are a fan of Lupin III like me
Noragami Aragoto : I watched the first season, and I liked it. Haven't started watching this anime, I hope it stays good like the first season
Mobile Suit Gundam : Iron Blooded Orphans : I love Gundam series and this Gundam series kicks off on a very unique setting on Gundam Universe. The main protagonist works on PMC (Private Military Company). Usually the main protagonist of Gundam are neutral at first and then he will take sides later on the stories.. (except for Gundam 00)
So far I'm enjoying the series and loved the concept of conflict on it! And the story telling is much more comprehensive than Gundam G-Reco... I dropped it at the 2nd episode.. Couldn't bear with it because of
G!! G!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! G!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So much shit happening, I don't what happened
Young Black Jack : Haven't watched it yet but I watched Black Jack back then on Animax, unfortunately I watched the dub version... yes it was awkward. But even though I watched the dubbed version, I still love the story, I think I will watch this one
K- Return of Kings : I watched this with my girlfriend, I watched the first season and watched the movie as well, Since this is the continuation from the movie which ends with great cliffhanger, so I'm curious to know how this show will wrap up. The animation at the first episode was awesome. The battle scene were intense. And another thing that is so intense at the first episode is Awashima's oppai! My god it looks like her oppai has its own mind and whenever I watch it I was like
"WHOA! Awashima Calm your tits down!" *slap*
It feels like the show wants to "balance" between the fanservice and manservice if you know what I mean lol
Osumatsu-san : I am honestly not familiar with this "showa anime". But the first episode made me laugh out loud! The gag feels like Gintama, so if you enjoyed Gintama's humor, this would please you too
Garo - Guren no Tsuki : I am honestly not familiar with Garo, until one of my friend asks me to watch Garo - Honoo no Kokuin and I'm hooked with it. So I'll give this anime a shot!
Gochuumon season 2 : well i watch the first season, and it makes me want to buy Tippy plush *if someone sells it to me here in Indonesia*, I may or may not watch this.. Well currently I'm not in the "moe" mood after I watched Gakkou Gurashi
Yuru Yuri san hai : I watched the last 2 seasons, it was hilarious, I might watch this one
Heavy Object : well I think Marty McFly has predicted this back in 1985,
because he always say "Man, this is heavy"
Got it?
Back to the future? anyone?
Shingeki no Kyojin Chuugakkou : well, I was pretty hyped when I watch Shingeki no Kyojin for the first time... but then the plot got so predictable for me.. so I dropped reading the manga and there's this one.. It feels like milking the franchise.. like seriously.. who would watch this besides the fans? lol
Sakurako-san no Ashimoto ni wa Shitai Umatteiru : You know there's a stupid trend that every light novel has a super long ass title that us foreigner (not japanese native speaker) having hard time to remember it..
Based on the artstyle and seeing the genre is mystery, ok, I will watch this one
Okay guys, I think this season has a lot of good and entertaining anime that is worth checking out!
I hope it won't be disappointing just like last season haha
So I'm going to post a little update for this week.. and also future plans of this blog
Apparently I got a lot of projects to do in my office up till November, So I think there's a possibility that I won't be able to post weekly as usual. *maybe 1-2 weeks of hiatus* I'm sorry for the inconvenience guys.
Secondly, I usually go to Anime Festival Asia Indonesia (AFAID) every year, but this year I won't go there because I'm not really interested to go there since it's quite far from my home.. (I live in the south, and it is being held in the far north in the middle of nowhere) and not offering something new, and they screen some anime which is not interesting for me (i.e. Attack on Titan movie recap of the series, Boruto *blergh, assassination classroom (which I already watch the series...welp 2 eps of it to be precise XP). And there's no interesting guest or bands that I like.. Well there's FLOW.. but I'm not into them that much.. Even though there's GACKT coming, but unfortunately he didn't got to perform on Anisong.. welp.. hopefully next year. haha
But I'm coming to Jakarta Comic Con instead, which is basically held in the same place as AFAID lol (Yeah I just said that it was far from my home, but I'm going there anyway). Since I'm curious what'll be like. I hope they screen some update on Batman vs Superman there
Sorry, I'm itching for experiencing something new, hahaha! Maybe I'll post an event report of Jakarta Comic Con later. *maybe* XP
The next thing I want to talk about is this year's summer anime.. and boy there's a lot of disappointing anime this season, you can check my first impressions of them here . The thing is, does it live up to my expectations? Let's see!
Chaos Dragon : I watched 3 eps of it and I dropped it... There's a lot of characters, and I don't really engaged with the setting, There's even an explanation in break scene before part A and part B of the anime. How can you expect to read that wall of text in just a second like that? Damn it. My girlfriend have watched up till episode 8 and she told me that there's nothing really interesting happened up to that point. Chaos Dragon is chaotic after all.
Himouto Umaru-chan : This anime is popular among my friends.. And that made me download the whole on going episode, And I watched the first episode of it... aaaannnddd I dropped it and delete the remaining episode because I can't take it... I don't get why it is so popular lol
So there's this imouto (Little sister) who does everything perfect at school (having good grades, good at sports etc) but at home, she became a super spoiled freaking brat who is a total otaku and always get what she wants by being a bratty bitch and because his big brother let her do so...She always got what she wants and always have it her ways. She whines and sulks until she got what she want.....
and every time she did that I was like
It's said here that the genre is comedy, but it didn't make me laugh at all the entire first episode......
For me if the genre is comedy and it didn't make laugh at all, that means the show have problems..
well there's a notable "otaku" references going on like "Nice Boat" from School days... But still, didn't even make laugh like I watch Gintama (which is much better in executing parody/referencing jokes). Sometimes I fed up with otaku reference jokes in anime, Every time I watch anime that heavily relies on otaku reference jokes, I was like
Non Non Biyori : I've watched up to eps 4 and still haven't move on from it.. It's so good so far!
God Eater : I watched up to eps 3 and I dropped it because it's so bland and the main character (which should be the player) is just boring and doesn't have a personality on him. The animation is indeed stunning since it is ufotable works, but still.. I don't feel the story is the same with God Eater that I played on PSP back then. It feels so different, and the pacing at 2nd episode is just tooooo slow..
it was like, the main character got prison because..... he didn't obey the rule. and in the end they offered the main character "Hey kid, do you want to get out of prison?"
and the main character be like
"well duh!"
and the show ended....
I think this show is popular because of Alisa's underboobs amirite?
Ranpo Kitan : I watched 2 eps of it and I'm still confused with it. It is a good mystery show but the way it delivers and the presentation is kinda weird. I really don't like the other characters that is not really "Important" are just shown as silhouette and that feels like a lazy animator doing their things because of the tight schedule lol. But what makes me irritated is apparently the silhouette character was the criminal who did the murder.
Well.. I sure didn't see that coming hahaha
Gangsta : best of this season so far. currently watching 9 episodes of it now
Charlotte : It is a good show so far. It feels so Angel Beats I will make a full review of it when it is done airing
Ushio to Tora : just watched the first episode of it. Haven't continue it yet... But it is cool!
Gakkou Gurashi : ermmagad... How do I even start about this anime? What keeps me watching this is because I want to know why people see this as a good series.. while I don't see it that way. Well it has good premise and taking an unique theme in zombie genre.. but for me it's a wasted potential...
I will make full review of this too.. but this one is going to be harsh review.. because I hardly enjoy this popular anime
Kangoku Gakuen (Prison School) : 2nd best of this season! Totally gonna make a review out of it!
Gatchaman Crowds Insight : Just watched the first episode.. Still saving them up!
Durarara! : Saving 'em up
Rokka Yuusha : It has a good premise, I watched up till eps 3... haven't continued watching again
Okay guys, that's all the update for this week! Thanks for reading! :D
As a person who works in the marketing research, I learned
that first impression is very important if we want to meet someone or engage
with something. Within the first 10 seconds, it will leave the crucial
impressions or thoughts that will stick for a long time in your head. Unless
that first 10 seconds didn’t leave any special impressions or normal for them.
So, what I’m going to say is, I want to make this special
segment called “first impression of (season) anime” in this blog for every
season. This first impressions comes from the title, synopsis, genre, the
person who works behind the anime, and also the artwork of the anime as well.
.
My first impressions with your first impressions will be
different since every human have different ways of thinking. So if you don’t
like my first impression of a certain anime which is your favorite anime, just
deal with it! And note that I haven’t watched all of these anime, only some of
them. So, without further a due.. let’s dive into it! XD
Chaos Dragon : I heard urobuchi take part on this anime, so,
maybe I’ll watch it and hopefully this anime won’t sell out his name just like
*cough* birdnoah.zero
Okusama ga seitokaicho, wakaba girl,Danchigai, Joukamuchi no
dandelion, Himouto! umaru-chan : I had enough with slice of life anime and moeshit,
skip!
Non Non Biyori Repeat : HOLY CRAP! NYANPASUUUUUUUUUUU! wat?
I just said “I had enough with slice of life anime and moeshit” you said? AM I
CONFLICTING MYSELF!? BUT RENCHON IS JUST TOO ADORABLE! THIS ANIME IS BEST
WATCHED BEFORE YOU GO TO SLEEP! IT’S SO RELAXING AND HEARTWARMING OKAY?! DON’T
JUDGE ME!
To-Love-Ru Darkness : God of light is working so ”hard”
again I guess, lololol! Did you see what I just did? Did you see that? Got it? Forget
it
God Eater : I played this game on PSP, and the story was
engaging for me (even though I haven’t finished it lol). And Ufotable is in
charge making this game into anime. I’m expecting great things from you! Don’t
let me down like Unlimited Baka Works, Ufotable!
Monster musume no nichijou : I’m sorry, I’m a monster
hunter, not a monster f*cker, or monster f*pper *drops mic* *walks away slowly
from the stage* *wear shades* *stage explodes*
Fate/Kaleid liner zwei herz : I dropped this at the zwei.. I
can’t stand watching it... I’m sorry, I feel so sinned watching this.... two
lolis making out and become the fanservice material is just too much for me.. I
can’t...
Working!!! : Apparently, the more season they get, the more
exclamation mark they have. I’m currently catching up this series with my
girlfriend. Or you can say.... we still working on it! *stop with the lame puns
seriously*
Dragon Ball Super : I watched the first eps, it was
nostalgic for me. Except there’s a alien-Egyptian-cat-that-is-so-overpowered-that-suddenly-introduced-as-Gordon-Ramsay-and-destroys-half-of-the-planet-because-that-food-is-too-greasy
Idolm@ster Cinderella Girls 2nd cour : I haven’t
finished the first cour yet.. but I have the impression that the story won’t be
as good as “The Idolm@ster”... Amami Haruka FTW
Ranpo Kitan Game of laplace : horor, mystery? Count me in!
Durararax2 Ten : I’m so saving up this anime for marathon.
That’s how I enjoyed durarara!
Gate : from the synopsis, I’m interested to give it a try
Gangsta : I watched the first episode and it was
dayummmmmmmmm, it’s definitely a seinen series that I will love! The edgy theme, gangster, corrupt police, drugs, prostitution, This anime is not for kids obviously. (you don't say!) And finally
there’s a badass character named Nicolas and he is so cool for me unlike the other Nico who’s
trying too hard to be cute and annoying. *Nico fans raeg incoming*
I'm sorry guys, I'm just kidding, Nico is cute... but Nozomi is the best girl
Ushio to Tora : I heard about this manga for a long time..
but I never have the chance to read it.. and I heard it is good. So I’ll try
watching it
Gatchaman Crowds Insight : I watched Gatchaman because I’m
hooked with the OST. My friend showed me the “Gatchaman – in the name of love”
theme song and I’m hooked with that song. It’s so catchy! So I watched it, and
I looooove the concept and the idea of it! I watched the 0 episode and the
first episode. It’s good to see the Gatchaman kicking ass again! BIRD GO!
Charlotte : Another PA works anime, One of my favorite
studio besides Kyoto Animation. This studio usually never let me down. I love
Shirobako, Nagi no Asukara, Hanasaku Iroha, Angel Beats and many more! I love
all of their anime! Well except for Glasslip (what the f*ck was that
seriously). And the genre is mystery and supernatural. I watched the first
episode this and thought that, Man this guy looks like Lelouch. I have the vibe
that this anime will be like Angel Beats somehow.. And the concept is
interesting for having supernatural powers just for a definite period which is
teenagers phase. I hope this anime won’t suck....
Shimoneta to Iu Gainen ga Sonzai Shinai Taikutsu na Sekai :
1st impression? THE TITLE IS TOO DAMN LONG! 2nd
impression, the synopsis is about anime with a lot of dirty jokes, Well I
watched Seitokai Yakuindomo, but I dropped it at the second season, because all
of those dirty jokes, I saw it “coming”
*see what I did the... ah forget it* So yeah... I think I won’t watch this as
well
Kangoku Gakuen : My friend told me this is based on epic
manga, but it has a lot of fanservice in it. And there’s Kana Hanazawa in this
anime.. so hell yeah I’m going to watch it!
Overlord : An anime based on MMO game? As long as it’s not
SAO or picking up girls in dungeon, I’ll give it a try
So yeah, here’s the list of anime that I’d probably watch
and definitely watch. Even though I said I won’t watch it, I might still watching it
because I’m currently waiting for any suggestions about this year’s summer
anime. This is just the first impression that I got from the title, artwork and
most importantly first episode that I watch. *why am I almost repeating myself
here*
So I’m going to ask you, any anime recommendation to add my
watching list? :D
